After the recent explosions and attacks on our capital city, the army is back patrolling the little streets of Arugam Bay; just like it was back in the day during the war. No, its not another war, its just the SL Army, Special Task Force, and SL Navy doing their part to protect us all.  And doing it pretty well.

What is going on Colombo? What is really going on in the world, people?

Just when we thought this was...

Well done us! We finally made it. After years of chit chats whilst glaring at the sunset, beer i one hand, toys in the other... 4 of us decided to just go for it. We put money, energy, brains, ideas, time, efforts, creativity, frustrations, patience into one pot and out came WAVEducation, Arugam Bay College.

The first International school in Arugam Bay.

We rented a house, set up the classroom and kids play area;...

Time flies.  Our days are getting shorter; and sleeps are getting longer.  We are running out of time to enjoy our daughter, surfing, fishing, nature. so we decided to give East Surf Cabanas up for rent for a couple of years. Not sure how this will work out, but if you are a couple or individual or a family wanting to experience the sri lankan dream without the hassle of building a new place, perhaps this could...

Following the recent attacks in early March in the Kandy area, between extremist Sihala and Muslims, the government has decided to shut down all forms of social media: fb, Instagram and whatsapp.

Yes, I can understand that they didn't want international media go crazy on us and thousands of people cancelling their holidays thanks to a few thugs who behaved like drunken monkeys causing a whole snowball effect a...

Its been 6 years and 1 month since I moved to Sri Lanka. Wow, it has gone so fast. I was definitely slimmer when I moved here. Having a baby and adding years to my body doesn't help stay slim. Have I changed? Do I miss London life? Yes, and yes. Would I go back? No.

I love it when I sit back around 6pm with a cold beer in hand, looking up and see swaying palm trees and countless stars.  I love the fact that my l...

I often dreamed of the best climate... not too hot, not too cold. And here it is. December brings us a few showers also known as monsoon; but December to February are definitely the best 2 months for the east coast of Sri Lanka. I am so grateful for not sweating like a race horse from 9am to 9pm. I feel blessed to be able to sleep at night without a fan. I am cherishing each second of this ideal climate.

We have...

While everyone else is busy shopping the high streets for everything and anything, we are busy cleaning and decorating the guesthouse for our Christmas crowd. We open today and close again on the 15th January. We have great discounts on the rooms, Sudu's curry is as delicious as always, and our vegetable farm is greener than ever.

Walks, pic nics, scooter rides, fishing, cook your own curry, read, meditate, etc...

End of October we closed the guesthouse and flew to Bali for a well deserved family holiday. It was our first time in Bali and did we like it? Yes and No. We enjoyed the villas with staff and pools and pretty gardens and the locals and the street food. I can see the attraction people have towards Bali, with its pretty shops and restaurants, gorgeous villas, unlimited surf break. However there are some areas I w...

Not sure people get Arugam Bay or read about it before they come here. The civil war of 30 years has left scars and traumas and not much creativity in terms of tourism. The Tsunami didn't help either. Thus the people of this small Muslim fishing village are struggling to keep up with the demands of irritating tourists and the fastest growing tourist spot this side of the island.

Arugam Bay is attracting familie...

So many changes, so many new developments, so many new shops and restaurants and guesthouses, its scary how fast Arugam Bay is developing. I don't have a problem with change, but I do have a problem with ignorant new businesses. People would do anything to get that extra bit of cash, that extra night booked, that extra dinner in their restaurant, as long as the money comes in, who cares what happens to the wast...
